Resident Scholarship Program
The Michaels Organization Educational Foundation announced that its scholarship application process for the 2023-2024 academic year is now open. The program is specifically designed for residents living in affordable and military housing communities owned by The Michaels Organization, a national leader in residential real estate. Residents of The Villages at Fort Irwin, and all other Michaels-operated military locations are eligible for this program.
“This is our 33rd year of offering scholarships to our residents,” said Michaels’ Chief Executive Officer John J. O’Donnell. “We are committed to giving back to the people and communities we serve, and making educational dreams a reality is key to our mission of Lifting Lives.”
Applications are available on Michaels’ website. The application process will remain open until Friday, April 14, 2023. All applicants will be notified of the outcome status of their application by June 12, 2023. https://tmo.com/scholars/#for-scholars
The scholarship awards, which range from $2,000 to $10,000 per student, are paid directly to the educational institution and can be used toward an undergraduate education at any accredited college, university, or vocational training program in the country. Recipients can reapply for every year of their undergraduate studies.
The criteria used to select Michaels Scholars includes academic performance, character, and proficiency or potential proficiency in a chosen field of study. Each of these criteria carries equal weight in determining who will receive grants. Academic performance is determined by evaluating high school or college grade transcripts released to the Foundation by the student. Application requirements also include an essay or a presentation by the student and a reference provided by an individual the applicant selects.
The Educational Foundation is a privately-funded, non-profit affiliate of The Michaels Organization that was created to assist residents who are pursuing higher education at a college, university, or trade/professional school. The application process available now is for residents of affordable and military housing communities; a separate program for residents of Michaels Student Living Communities will open for applications this fall.
Since its inception in 1991, the foundation has granted over $12 million to students in The Michaels Organization’s portfolio across the country, with a record-breaking $1.6 million being bestowed in 2022.
All foundation funds are raised through voluntary contributions by corporations, companies, families, private trusts, and individuals throughout The Michaels Organization’s business network. All donations are then matched $2 for every $1 by The Michaels Organization’s Founder and Chairman, Michael J. Levitt, and his wife, Pat Levitt.
